kana1 Every track, especially Pioneer's Horizon, stirs my imagination about a fantasy world. Favorite track: Pioneer's Horizon.

palehorse666 one of my favorites from 2018. both the game and music accompanying it is like a blast of nostalgia for those who grew up with the SNES. a great fusion of orchestral and electronic sounds, with some sick guitars thrown in for good measure. with atmospheric level themes that enrapture you, and intense boss themes that make you lean forward in your seat, this soundtrack is too good to pass up. Favorite track: Barren Corridors.

Fyda Wow, the chills... amazing and exquisite music. This transports me back to my late 90s gaming childhood. I keep flashing back to scenes from Chrono Trigger. Favorite track: Echoes of the Forgotten.

the_azure_wolf After hearing the song that was used for the initial Kickstarter trailer I knew the soundtrack was gonna be great. I didn't expect it to be this phenomenal though. It draws a lot of influence from those 90s games we all know and love but it definitely has its own style. There's lots of memorable tunes in this soundtrack. I'm looking forward to what Jeff Ball comes out with next! Favorite track: Pioneer's Horizon.

Alucard3598 Such a lovely homage and celebration to 90's era video games. A great mix of sounds from game series like Chrono Trigger, Castlevania, Metroid, and Mega Man, with some very nice organic elements like the ones found in "Echoes of the Forgotten". "Pioneer's Horizon" is where all the different elements really come together. Favorite track: Pioneer's Horizon.

zoglarfy Very Shimomura-esque feel to the music. Feels right at home in a classic SNES/PSX game (and I haven't even played the game yet!). Favorite track: No Matter the Cost.

about

Timespinner is a beautifully pixelated 2D Metroidvania about a lone young woman who travels through time to destroy a galactic empire, created by Bodie Lee, with music composed and produced by Jeff Ball.

Timespinner came to the public's attention in the summer of 2014 with a Kickstarter project, which was funded over three times its goal thanks to the generous pledges of 5,751 backers. We will never be able to thank you enough for all of your support. We hope you enjoy the game as much as we have enjoyed creating it for all of you.

Jeff Ball was brought in to score the original Kickstarter trailer, and then to compose the soundtrack for the game. Because of the longer nature of indie development cycles, this gave Jeff an opportunity to research and develop his style for 90s Metroidvania music, which involved playing through multiple games from that era, and composing many different sketches. Bodie Lee was also a great resource for music suggestions and feedback. Much of this developmental music is included at the end of the soundtrack.

The primary goal of this soundtrack was to recreate the nostalgia of late 1990s era game music by using and emulating the audio and music hardware available from that era. The music itself is varying in genre, from a baroque-inspired harpsichord concerto to progressive rock, with gothic and time-inspired themes used throughout. Jeff drew inspiration from incredible game composers of the 90s including Michiru Yamane, and Yasunori Mitsuda, who left incredible musical marks on games from that era. Jeff also called upon the talents of musicians Kristin Naigus, Cain German, and Christian Pacaud, who lent their amazing talents last minute for a human touch on the soundtrack. All of these factors culminated into a musical journey that can be appreciated on its own, as well as within Timespinner.

Thank you for supporting all of us in pursuing our dreams as video game developers, music composers, and musicians.

Let this music be your Timespinner to younger days.
